I have just had the pleasure of cracking open a bottle of De Struise’s Pannepeut.

This beautiful Belgian pours a rich malt brown with a creamy beige head and looks very inviting indeed. The nose is full of fresh apples and notes of vanilla, with a very prominent Belgian yeast aroma.

The taste is surprisingly light and crisp for a 10% beer with the subtlest alcohol warmth. I love this beer’s richness: deep, complex flavours of caramel, bananas and dark fruit. It has a smooth mouth-feel with hints of brandy.

It is quite simply delicious: rich and deep but delicately balanced with fresh floral hoppiness. I would pair it with our knickerbocker glory; toffee sauce, ice cream, bananas and beer!
